I am sad. Sad beyond belief. My roommate could have gotten FREE tickets to the American Idol concert WITH my beautiful future father of my children Jason Castro! And since she didn’t check her email… we missed out. The tickets were for floor seats too.

I guess i should be excited that we got super fantastic seats at the football game though. 20 yard line, 2nd row. Yep, I even got on the big screen. (And I got my tickets for a super discount) My first week at college and I’m famous- did I tell ya’ll about the person that recognized me at dinner- because of my “job”. Yeah, I know I’m awesome.

Before the game i had some gatorade- it looked so cool, I just had to take a picture of it for you:

And I took a picture of the firetruck that was at the dining center- the derb- cuz the fire alarms were going off. There is a bit of a reflection from the window since I took this from my window:

I don’t have a picture of my next adventure. But we got Jimmy John’s sandwiches for free last night. Haha, they were 1 hour late. We called- they gave us $20 of food free. Then we went and watch the first half of The Holiday- with Jude Law, Jack Black, Kate Winslet, blah blah blah. We had to turn it off though because the boys were falling asleep and we couldn’t have cohabitation- could we?!

I tried a church today with a couple roommaties. I liked the church- not the sermon. I think thats how we all felt. We’re going back next week because theres a BBQ afterwards (FREE FOOD!) for the college students. So we’ll check out the college ministry a bit.

Wha Cha- karate chop. You don’t have to use you killer self defense skills if you call *77 if an unmarked police car that pulls you over happens to be a rapist. Just call that numbr and the dispatcher will tell you if theres a police car in you area. My grandma sent me this email twice and my mom sent it to me once- it must be important.

I think I might make yellow submarine my theme song but change the boat to a kind of my liking- color and all!!! This shall make my early mornings much more interesting.

If you could only know how guilty I have felt not being able to update you on my extraordinarily fascinating life! I feel like I have abandoned each and every one of you for the last week or so due to the recent business of everything. Well, I am back and I have a few things to share (and a lot that I can’t say- but really really want to!)

Let’s do a recap of the last couple of days:

  • Friday: Move in day! Whahoo! I woke up at the norm: 8:30 and got ready like any other day. Mom eventually asked me to get moving. We packed everything that I had been hoarding in my room into the minivan and left for college. 2 hours later we’re in town and having lunch at Wendy’s. We met a retired prof. there… I think I’ve told you about this already! Anyways- I am going to try out his church this Sunday. After lunch we got checked in and all then worked on moving stuff in. Lots of stuff- but not as much as some people (omgosh!)
  • Saturday: Hung out with friends and moved stuff around. Just a very boring day in general. Well, I guess I did go to a church BBQ. It was small and we played some cool games… I feel like I’ve told you this already too! … but I’m too lazy to check.
  • Sunday: Got some meetings to go to. That I can’t tell you about… other than that they seemed to take up my day. Hung out with the roomie. She’s pretty cool (Hi!!!) But there’s kinda a time warp thing that happens when we go places together. It took us 30 minutes to walk to a meeting today. 30- isn’t walking around campus supposed to be easy?
  • Monday: 1st day of classes! Cool beans. Chem 1, Gen Psych, and Spanish 3- all from 10:30-2:20. Chem should be easy for a while. When I took it in h.s. I wanted to be a chemical engineer… not so much anymore, but I still have to take the class. In psych, I sit with at least one of my “co-workers”. By now I have seen about 10 people I went to h.s. with. Went to the book store (BUSY BUSY BUSY!)  tried to read some boring intro chem stuff and fell asleep.
  • Tuesday: After looking through the books that I got yesturday I decided to switch into Spanish 4- because I had already learned everything in Spanish 3 according to the syllabus and book. We ended up in a bit of a crisis though- I dropped down to 11 hours by doing that. We fixed is ASAP though. It’s all good now. This afternoon- since I don’t have classes on Tues and Thurs now (!!!) I went to Best Buy to exchange mi computadora porque the harddrive was bad. (I know- it’s not just me being picky, things are actually wrong with these computers) Cute Best Buy Boy- “CBBB” helped me out.
  • Wednesday: Went to the 1st day of real class and took real notes. I know, isn’t that cool? The Spanish prof talked a million miles an hour in Spanish. I was a bit intimidated at 1st but towards the end of class I was catching about 75-90% of what she said. Her hand motions really helped. I am going to learn SO much in that class- I’m super excited about what all will happen through that class. Oh and saw CBBB while walking to my 2nd class 😉 (haven’t seen gym boy yet 😦 ) By now I thought that I had seen everybody from my h.s. that was coming here…
  • Thursday: I was wrong- I saw 3 or 4 more people I hadn’t seen yet on campus. My roommates are beginning to wonder how many people i know. It’s gotten to the point where the people I’m seeing are like- wow, didn’t know you were coming here!- and the count is probably close to 30 or so… My 2nd day off. Woke up, did exciting stuff, came back, showered, studied, walked 20min to get my bike pass, walked 15min back. Studied, Went to A’s room with my suitemate. Then we went to lunch. I came back to A’s place and studied. Then M showed up- it’s her room too. We grabbed AH and went to the Union- where we saw CBBB again 😉 and a guy that looked like Sunshine/ sunnywhoever from Remember the Titans- the longer blonde hair. It was awkward- I looked over in AH’s general direction- eye contact, awkward! looked away-looked back to see what AH was doing- eye contact. Ok my story is done. I gotta go grab dinner, study, and do laundry/read. Then I will probably watch TV in the study room 2 doors down the hall- cuz it has cable. yeah, yeah.

Whew!

What a busy time! All I can say is that time flies. I wish I could write a longer post, but it is 9:46 and I still have homework- and am getting up way early in the morning- like 6:10ish.

I will post something more substantial tomorrow (hopefully!) when the IT guy helps me figure out how to get my new (yes, this is #4) computer to be in the correct health to enter the network.

Until then,

Water Stats

Check this out. I found some interesting facts about water and dehydration from my devotional this afternoon. I thought you might find them very interesting.

• Research tells us that drinking eight to 10 glasses of water a day can significantly reduce pain for almost 80 percent of the people who suffer from back and join pain.

• Seventy-five percent of all Americans are chronically dehydrated.

• A mere two percent drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

• In 37 percent of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it’s often mistaken for hunger.

• One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100 percent of the dieters studied in a University of Washington research project.

• Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as three percent.

• Lack of water is the number one reason for daytime fatigue.

• Drinking just five glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79 percent, and one is 50 percent less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Now we all know that 73.9% of statistics are made up… and I don’t know where she got her info. But I just thought these tidbits were some tasty food for thought.

My new room!

I finally have some time to sit down and tell/show you all about my room. It’s pretty roomy actually. I think it’s a bit bigger than my room at home maybe- and I’m always getting comments from friends about how large a bedroom i have.

The layout is room, bathroom, room. So the 2 rooms are connected by a bathroom (shower and stool- or toilet- I’m using plumbing terminology here (because I miss my old job!)). Each room has a little counter unit with a sink, drawers on each side, and a medicine cabinet.

This is the inside of my door.

It is held open by this

(because I am cheap and for the moment, this works. it’s glacier freeze/berry flavored btw)

Now I need you to turn 180*. your back is to my door. You will look over my desk and at my bed then see my window:

Next I need you to step closer to my window so you can see outside.

I have a nice view of employee parking! And of one of the coed dorms. Dad said I need to make sure that I close my blinds every so often, if ya get my drift 😉

Turn to your right. Your back will be facing my bed.

If you step closer to the sink there will be a door to the bathroom. I have stuff like this posted up there:

Ok, now you need to come out of the sinks area and face the door. Look at my lovely closet!

My stuff is on the right, and in my desk/dresser, and under my bed.

I’d tell you about my roommate- but that would include talking about my job. And I can’t talk about it. So sad. Because I’m loving it, and wish I could share all of the interesting things.

Sorry for the inconvinience. I’ll find some intersting topics soon.

I woke up this morning and lazily got ready for my day. I did the usual and then added the finishing touches to my packing toward the end of my routine. At about 10, we left the house. Mom was with me, Dad was driving the minivan with all of my stuff in it. two hours later, we’re in *edited out*. First stop:lunch.

We went to wendy’s. I got my fav: southwest taco salad. it’s got chili in it! While in line we met a retired professor. Dr. L. He was very nice. We talked about his car ( and ’34 ford- since we saw him driving it) and about him working on his new house. We talked a bit about me. (it was a long line) Then, what caught me off guard: since his new house is by the boathouse, he said to just drop on by his house any time- just to say hi. This is part of why I chose *edited out* . People are much friendlier over here.

Even people that are not from the area are nice. When I was checking in with my RA, a kid from h.s. walked up to me and asked if I needed any help unloading stuff. We knew each other- but never really talked much the past 4 years.

So it’s now 1 o’clock. We worked on moving my stuff in. (and i got my id card from the union somewhere in there) It took quite a while. But everything fits!

We make a walmart run. get some stuff. get back. tell my parents bye. no tears. put sutff away. have some spaghetti-o’s (with meatballs!) and a banana- separate, of course. put some more stuff away. called a friend. interupted her prayer meeting- sorry. got ready. went out for a bite. came back. made plans for tomorrow… all day tomorrow. realized that someone forgot to lock the door. turned the laptop on. spent an hour trying to get *edited out* to realize my computer was safe. now im here trying to hurry things up.

i have plenty of pictures. you’ll see some soon. maybe tomorrow. maybe in 5 years. (when i’m outta here?!)

The Big Day is Tomorrow

Soooo… tomorrow is move in day. I have flocks of butterflies in my stomach and way too much stuff in those boxes lined up in the dining room. There is still tons of stuff to do- at least in my mind.

I better get a good night’s sleep tonight. I slept a bit better last night, probably due to the fact that I slept downstairs. So it’s my last night at home for a while and I won’t even be sleeping in my own bed!

Ok, off to do important stuff… like take pictures for you so you can read something interesting tomorrow.
