That Tall Girl

Oh Facebook…

Dear Facebook,

You are really starting to get on my nerves lately. It wasn’t enough that you started feeling like Big Brother, you just had to start making me angry in other ways, too. Could you please stop taking up so much of my time? This is especially problematic when you freeze up while I’m trying to avoid writing an essay. Also, if you could please stop sending me so many event invitations this week, it would be much appreciated.

On the bright side of things, since fb wasn’t working properly I actually finished an analysis over No oyes ladrar los perros. I hope you like the only English translation I cuold find for ya’ll. It’s an ok translation; pretty word for word (whereas the translator should have worked it a bit to make it sound more colloquial)

Speaking of Spanish, I worked on my graduation plan yesturday in preparation for my advisor meeting tomorrow regarding the Spring semester (!!!). I only need to take 4 more Spanish classes. Seeing as how my current rate is 2 classes a semester, I need to slow it down a bit if I’m going to stay here for 3-4 more years.

And I’ve got to study if I’m going to stay in school, which is what I shall go do now… because I feel like tests and projects are flying at me right now by orders of my professors 🙂 Flying like the monkeys…

Everyone, meet Charles

Charlie is quite rude, just like that apple.

Charlie is quite rude, just like that apple.

It is VERY important that you all know about Charles. You see, he has been trying to kill me for about 1.5 months now. (I told you: important!) It’s time to annihilate him! But I’m having some trouble.

We’ve tried three times to wipe him out, spill his guts,  and shoot ‘im to pieces. THREE TIMES!!! And 3 times we’ve failed. All is not lost I keep telling myself, a new battle plan is all that’s needed. Hopefully Charles and I will eventually separate… eventually.

Really, I’m just tired of him hanging around all the time, cramping my style. Super bugs from the Devil tend to do that you know. What? You haven’t figured it out yet? Mr. Chuck is my killer sinus infection. He used to be a lot more but, we’ve made him lose some weight. We said “Charles, you gotta cut back. You’ve gotten out of hand!”

Anyways. Charlie. Dear old Charlie. He’s like poetry: completely unnecesary yet he still exists  just to torture poor little college students like me for some crazy reason.

On the mend

This morning my best friend and I woke up a bit earlier than would be college-kosher: 8:30, and went to lift weights. The reason? We probably should. Back to the story. While there, in the little shoe changing place we have set up, we were changing our shoes. Out of slides and flip flops and into socks and tennies. Suddenly (!!!) somebody walked into the quite-empty-of-human-life weight room. Apparently he used to go to school here and thought my friend was somebody he knew from school back in the day. She wasn’t. It was all a rather odd and awkward conversation involving him reading our routine and saying how this will make us loose our booties. Oh my… sometimes I just don’t know how to respond to people, haha.

After an eventful morning I went back home. Home sweet home. It was now time to do laundry. How did I know this you may ask? Well, I have had to wear the same teal-ish running shorts for the 2nd or 3rd day in a row. When I start running out of clothes to wear, that’s when it’s time to wash some more.  Now let me tell you, going to a new place to do laundry can be a bit stressful. It is for me, anyways. As far as I can tell the washer takes less than 45 minutes and the dryer takes more than 40 minutes. In the process of doing laundry I was able to organize my dresser a bit more and sort out my Tshirts.

See all my laundry hanging up… more like all of my shorts and a few other items, like a lunch box/bag. Now, I want you to look at the dresser. See how small it is. There is now way all of my Tshirts could fit in there in addition to my other clothes that are in there. You may be wondering… TG how do you store all of your Tshirts? The answer is underbed storage!

On the left I keep all of my colored shirts. Cookie monster is staring at you… And on the right I keept all of my white, gray and black shirts. I suppose I could tell you that there is one more bin under my bed. But I won’t need that stuff until it gets cold!

Oh! I still need to tell you why doing my laundry was so important. When I went down to the laundry room (because my complex has one) I could smell stuff. You know that old, basement-y, laundry room smell? Yah, I could smell that. After finishing my chores I decided since it was already 1pm that it was time for a shower. Got that done and decided that I should use some saline nasal spray stuff like my doctor told me to. So I start pouring this stuff down my nose… and realize that I grabbed the Afrin. Haha… silly TG. So I blew my nose and tried to rinse with the saline stuff because my nose is needing a hiatus from Afrin after being used for 5 days. Right now I think that I’m starting to feel better. That’s good.

It’s that time of year again

As I sit here staring down some yummy looking pretzels an interesting thought comes to mind:

what a bittersweet word to be uttered during these last dog days of summer. It starts in roughly a week- yikes!- and although I’m ready for it, I’m kinda not.

School means military-like schedule, with my life planned out to the last minute. BUT It also means friends! And Cru! And other important things.. like learning… Anyways-I’m super excited to get to see all of my friends again. A couple of them are already in town but busy with recruitment week for their sororities. The rest are trickling back into town as time passes. No joke, it has been so weird to see how this tiny town of about 50,000 (including the 24,000 students) has been growing day by day. More people out for runs, at WalMart, etc.

Even though the thought of homework seemed daunting, it’s that time again. Time to think in Spanglish again. Time to make flash cards till they come out my ears (again). Time to get back to real life (not summer camp land)

Here’s a quick wrap up of my summer:

Inconceivable… To be Moved in!

Oh, it is so nice to be all moved in to my new apartment! Since things are still a bit lonely around here and I woke up a bit earlier than hoped, I decided that it was a good time to watch a movie. After looking through the box of DVDs and VHS tapes, Princess Bride was an obvious choice.

When the movie is just about finished it will be time for church… which makes this movie a perfect choice because I don’t need to finish it- I already know what happens!

This just happens to be my motto for movies during the school year weekdays. I need to know what happens in the movie so that I won’t be bothered if I have to get up and leave during the middle of it. I’m not going to give up movies just because my schedule is craaaazy.

Speaking of crazy, there is no internet in the apartment yet. Boo. A trip to the library this afternoon is on my agenda so that I can post this message. Is it sad that I already miss my email after just one day?

No Joke, this Post is Boring… because it’s Friday.

Today has been an eventful day.  Very eventful.

Oh, I just saw an ad for Nick and Norah’s Endless Play List. DO NOT SEE THAT MOVIE. It’s a complete waste of time/money. Juvenile, lack of a well developed plot, etc. Oh and don’t waste your time/money on Charlie Bartlett.

Ok one more funny thing before I sign off and go to bed: My conversation class got moved to a different building today. We were all waiting outside for our prof. and another one of classmates comes through the doors. He looks like he’s seen a ghost. He said, “what are you all doing here” we explained that class was here today. apparently he was planning on skipping class today (since he’s in a different section I think is what he said…) I just thought it was funny how he ended up running into his class he was trying to avoid.

And for your viewing pleasure, here’s a cute little claymation vid about el Valle de la Luna:

Study Break

Blah, blah, blah. Homework is going to be an issue this semester. I can see it now. No more naps. No more being social during the week. Etc.

For speech we had to come up with some possible speech topics under different categories. When I got to the “Hobbies/Trips/Leisure Activities” portion all I could come up with was watching movies, going to study table, and making cards (which I don’t even do while at college!) After talking with the roomie we decided that we have no life. “Student Athlete” pretty much describes my life.

Ok, funny story. In my speech class on the first day of class we did an activity to see what kind of people we had in our class,  you know, conservative/ liberal, military, age, residence, etc. We came to the question of if you like sports or not. I ended up being the farthest to the “doesn’t like sports” side (even though I was standing just a bit past the middle of the room… Anyway, my TA then asks “Oh, since we’re on the subject, who are our student athletes in here?” Haha, ME! Show’s you what dedication I have to the sports realm…

Actually I love my sport. I just don’t care much for watching other sports. And since we’re talking about watching stuff… I think that you should watch the All American Rejects “Gives You Hell” music video. It’s pretty cute.
