Check this out. I found some interesting facts about water and dehydration from my devotional this afternoon. I thought you might find them very interesting.

• Research tells us that drinking eight to 10 glasses of water a day can significantly reduce pain for almost 80 percent of the people who suffer from back and join pain.

• Seventy-five percent of all Americans are chronically dehydrated.

• A mere two percent drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

• In 37 percent of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it’s often mistaken for hunger.

• One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100 percent of the dieters studied in a University of Washington research project.

• Even mild dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as three percent.

• Lack of water is the number one reason for daytime fatigue.

• Drinking just five glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45 percent, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79 percent, and one is 50 percent less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Now we all know that 73.9% of statistics are made up… and I don’t know where she got her info. But I just thought these tidbits were some tasty food for thought.

TMI Haitus- Over For Now

And I guess you should be happy that I woke up after going to bed for 2.5 hours so that you could read about what I hinted about yesturday. (I woke up because I went to be bed at 6:10 because I was tired since I hadn’t been sleeping well and then my sister who I’m currently in a fight with decided to play music in the shower(RIGHT NEXT TO MY ROOM!) quite loudly. Pretty sure that was a run-on sentence. My early bedtime was probably also caused by me not feeling well. Here’s my story:

I done got hypotension my junior year(spring 2007). Yeah, go try to find info on that on the web. It pretty much sucks. I hate it. Want to know what was the deciding factor in my diagnosis- me standing up for 40 minutes then passing out (all at the Dr.’s office).

Some of the other symptoms are:

  • frequent headaches/migraines
  • dizziness upon standing up (like seeing stars or blacking out frequently)
  • skin becomes very sensitive to the touch- we’re talking pain
  • irritability
  • somewhat swollen feet
  • weakness
  • not able to concentrate
  • nauseaous

So what does this mean? It means that my way super stressed out BP from the other day was 100/68. It means that to keep up my BP I need to drink a lot of water and consume MASSIVE amounts of salt. Like we’re talking so much salt on my food I can feel the graininess of it. Plus taking salt tabs (but I don’t like these because they taste naystay and upset my tummy)

Normally I wouldn’t talk about all of this, but I felt it was needed since I tend to vere this blog towards the fitness/health category. There is a terrible stigma that surrounds salt- and I used to buy into it. But I can’t anymore (like really, it’s ridiculous). Anyways, it just kinda sorta bothers me that everybody is all “salt is the devil in disguise, out to get you and your precious little heart too. muahaha

So I am supposed to grow out of this. Or at least I should according to my doctor. Then again I might not grow out of this. Plus there’s the whole genetic predisposition towards a low BP. Lovely.

I’m pretty sure that I have howler monkeys in my backyard. Now not only have the cicadas come out, but so have the primates! Even Annie (the dog) noticed the strange noises. Although some people might say the noises sound like birds, I’m convinced I live in a jungle similar to that of Peru! despite the fact that I live in the ‘burbs.

Maybe Anthony has had too much influence upong my life. Maybe it’s my inner self talking to me: “You want to live in a jungle. Being surrounded by howler monkeys is just what you’ve wanted since the 1st grade when you first learned about them. Jungles are cool. Go find a jungle!”

Find a “jungle” I did. Part of the reason I’ve been outside lately is to water the neighbor’s plants… which is more like a jungle. A very pretty jungle. Despite the fact that I’m now covered in chigger and mosquito bites, the first of which is mainly right along my sports bra “seams”, I look forward to going and spending time watering and hanging out in the jungleness of their backyard. Heck, they even have hibiscus flowers back there.

Well, now my week of watering the jungle is coming to a close, although those chigger bite will remain at least another weel, and I’m kinda sad that it’s going to be over. I’m especially going to miss watering the pot of herbs, which smell like spaghetti sauce when I water them. Or maybe I’m going to miss the tower of potted flowers. Even though I can’t decide what my favorite part of the jungle is, it has made me realize that I want one when I’m older. A big, pretty jungle- minus the monkeys.

Sings: “This is What Dreams are Made of!”

As i sit here writing, the Lizzie Mcguire Movie is finishing up on the Disney channel. This came out somewhere between my 8th and 9th grade year- so 2004?? may it was ’05. Dunno. All I know is that I like it. Actually I just like the part where she hangs out with her Italian bf and sings- I could care less about where she realizes that the boy of her dreams was there all along (her bff, soon to be bf).  Here’s my fav part of the movie- not in its entirity, but close…

And here’s something I DON’T like. Well, I’ve never tried it- but don’t plan on it. This has been one of my worst fears for many years. It’s the reason I freak out when someone brushes past me in lakes. **edited out*

Back From the Gym

Have I mentioned that Thursday nights are my favorite time of the week to go to the gym? Well, I love them! Why, you ask. I shall answer your burning question:

  1. Exercise. I get one killer workout. It isn’t actually killer persay, but it is fairly intense.
  2. Instructor. D is my fav instructor. She’s just really nice and she knows her stuff. Plus she’s genuinely concerned about how my training **edited out** is going. (It’s going great btw. I’m kicking it up a notch next week though!!!)
  3. Friends. Water aerobics isn’t the most intense workout  I’ve ever done, but the people in the class make it worth my time. I haven’t seen De. in a couple of weeks- work conflicts (both her and me) and it was just fun to be able to chat with her again.

I like lists 🙂

Today I took my nike+ for my run (I went after work- no energy this morning) at the gym. It was such a wonderful run! I ran about 2 mi in 20 min. (Sorry there’s no pic- wordpress is being silly) The course is rather small- 1/12 mi per lap- so it’s almost hypnotising running around it. Since it was Frisday night almost nobody was at the gym… it was so peaceful: but it meant no swimming today. I’m scared that a shark will eat me in the pool and nobody will notice since they’re all on the treadmills.
On another note… I talked to my roommate!**edited out**

On another other note… 🙂 I went to the grocery store today to get dinner and lunch stuff. I grabbed a luscous lemon stoneyfield farms yogurt and when I opened it at home it was strawberry! I was so dissapointed… Strawberry is yummy but lemon is almost heavenly. And I needed that after such a boring day like today.

Hey, I ran a bit over a mile today! That is the 1st time in almost 2 years that I’ve been able to do that! I’m so excited to be making progress like this. Sadly, I didnt bring my Nike+ with me 😦 so I cant tell you the exact milage- but I can tell you that I ran for about 20 min! I’m a slow runner- maybe I ran 2 miles?? The instructor only lapped me once… maybe twice…

D, who teaches Thurday night ride and run and then water aerobics had a sub for water tonight. While T was a very nice person, she just wasn’t the same as D. It just seemed to drag.

I’m so tired- I just want to sleep. No more writing

P.S. I havent seen gym-boy all week. Ay Currumba
